Please join us for brunch, October 18th, following the worship service. Please bring a dish to share. Table service and drink will be provided. Tyson Chappell will be preparing the BBQ Chicken!

Harvest Home

We will celebrate Harvest Home on November 8th. All donations received will be used in Dreisbach’s Blessing Box to benefit our local community in need.

Fall Rummage Sale Wrap Up

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the Rummage Sale this Fall (setup crew, checkers, baggers, kitchen crew, cleanup crew and our devoted salesmen upstairs). Thanks to our local scout troop #520, who helped set up the tables and two of the scouts and their families helped clean up. This is what it takes to make a great sale go well. It was a great week of fellowship with the workers and the visitors.

Thank you to all the bakers and soup donators. We have some of the best cooks in the county. Dreisbach stepped up to the plate when asked that we needed vegetable soup as well as chicken corn. The total sales of soups - $696 and baked goods - $577.50. The money from both sales goes the Weekend Food Program (Backpack Program).

Our sales from the Rummage totaled $4,596.29. All of this goes toward mission work. It was a record time of around an hour to clean up. Thank you Dreisbach people. A job well done.

We will be meeting in the back of the church on October 25th, to decide where the money goes. Your input is welcomed!

GOD, EVIL & THE REALITY OF SUFFERING

(Bible Study continues for October & November - Wednesday Evenings 6:30-8:00pm)

We live in a world broken in many ways. Each of us has experienced suffering in one way or another. There is brokenness of bodies, spirits, and relationships. Pain and distress circulate through physical, emotional, and mental concerns.

How are we to understand our relationship with God in and through all this suffering? Where is God? What is God doing to help us through this suffering? How are we to identify the causes of suffering and the avenues it takes? Has people’s understanding of suffering and God’s role changed through the ages? Does the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus provide a different understanding and outlook of suffering? How can the Church use and utilize scripture to aid our understanding?

This Fall, we will use the Book of Job and selections of the Apostle Paul’s writings to guide our reflection and discussion of “God, Evil, and the Reality of Suffering.” Please join us for a timely and lively group discussion on this important topic.

October 7th: Where to turn? Who will help or intervene? Why is this happening?

Job 15-16, 19; 2 Corinthians 4:7-12

October 14th: How well do we know ourselves? How do others see us? What is God’s

view? Job 22, 24, 27; 2 Corinthians 6:3-10; Philippians 3:7-11

October 21st: Taking stock of suffering before God, family, friends, & church.

Job 29-31; Romans 7:14-25; Colossians 2:13-15

October 28th: Should we pay attention to the “advice givers?”

Job 33-34; Mark 10:35-45

November 4th: The relationship of righteousness, justice, & suffering.

Job 35-37; 2 Timothy 2:8-10 and 3:10-11

November 11th: Maybe we should let God speak.

Job 38-42; Romans 8:18, 26-30

5th Saturday Meal

Dreisbach’s Care Committee along with more than 20 helpers hosted there first 5th Saturday meal on Saturday, August 25th. A spaghetti dinner was prepared and served free of charge to 60 community members (as well as all the helpers)! Due to the very busy schedule at Dreisbach during the fall they will skip the 5th Saturday of October but plan to provide another free meal on January 30th. Stay tuned for more information and thank you to everyone that helped and donated to make this community outreach possible.

All Saints Sunday

All Saints Sunday will be on November 1st. If you have a loved one that has passed during the last year that you would like remembered on that day, please contact Pam Pfirman dreisbachsecretary@gmail.com , 570-898-9774) so that we can include them in this years’ service.

Upcoming Meetings

· Prayer Shawl will meet Tuesday, October 27th at 6:30 at the church.

· Prime-Timers will take place on October 22nd, 12:30pm at OIP in Mifflinburg

· Lattes and Laughs will begin meeting again on Thursday mornings at 10:00 am beginning on October 15th. Stop in for some fun and games!

Fall Festival

The Fall Festival is coming upon us quickly, October 10th! We need everyone’s help to make this community event a success. We will be contacting volunteers to help at the games, food stand and bake sale. If no one has spoken to you and you are able to assist, please reach out. We are also looking for help on Friday evening prior to the festival to haul tables and other items from the church social hall to the Gazebo and again after the completion of the Festival to return the tables and things to the church social hall. Please consider where you may be able to assist with this wonderful event.

There will be sign-up sheets at the back of the sanctuary to sign up for donations to the bake sale (please remember to label your items) and some items needed for the food stand. Any questions regarding the Fall Festival -please reach out to Sharon Magyar 570-412-6310 call or text.

Pie Contest

School is back in session, Fall is quickly approaching and so is the Fall Festival which means it is time to call all bakers! We need bakers young and old and in between, male and female! So, start thinking about which one of your favorite pie recipes you would like to take 1st place! Prize money will be awarded to the top three winners in each division: adult female, adult male, and youth (up to age 15, please note that we lowered this age group).

Entry forms are available at the back of the church and on Friday, October 9th, in the downstairs social room. Please ensure all pies are delivered to the church by 10:30 am on Saturday morning, October 10th. Pies may also be brought to the church on Friday afternoon during setup. For $3 dollars taste all the pies and cast your vote for your top 3 favorites! Trunk or Treat

Dreisbach will again host a fun fall event for our young as well as those who are simply

young at heart on October 25th.

Spread the word about our “Trunk or Treat” from 1:30 to 3:30 PM at the

Dreisbach UCC parking lot.

Decorate your car and pass out treats to all the kids. Feel free to dress up too!

Playground Progress

Many of you may have noticed the brand new play structure behind the church. All of the kids are eager to try it out but we’ll need to wait a little longer. Consistory is currently receiving quotes to fence the play area and once that takes place the safety surface for the play area can be installed.

Consistory Thanks

· A huge thank you to the many volunteers that make the rummage sale possible. There are many and they put in a lot of week throughout the week to make this sale such a success. We are truly grateful to all of you!

· A big thank you to the Willow men, Chad, Andy and Terry for the work they have put in to creating a beautiful, safe play area for the children of Dreisbach!

· We would also like to shout out our thanks to Michelle Willow for providing all of the signs for Dreisbach’s special events. Thank you so much!

Group Workcamps Coming to Mifflinburg Summer 2027

Group workcamps will be returning to our area next summer, 7/18/27-7/24/27. They will have approximately 400 youth volunteers along with adult leaders. These volunteers will be completing small home repairs to those in need throughout the community. If you or someone you know is in need of these services there are applications available to apply for assistance. Consistory is considering how Dreisbach can serve (possibly providing or serving a meal to the volunteers). More information along with applications to apply is available at the back of the church.
