GOD, EVIL & THE REALITY OF SUFFERING
(Bible Study for September, October & November
Wednesday Evenings 6:30-8:00pm)
We live in a world broken in many ways. Each of us has experienced suffering in one way or another. There is brokenness of bodies, spirits, and relationships. Pain and distress circulate through physical, emotional, and mental concerns.
How are we to understand our relationship with God in and through all this suffering? Where is God? What is God doing to help us through this suffering? How are we to identify the causes of suffering and the avenues it takes? Has people’s understanding of suffering and God’s role changed through the ages? Does the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus provide a different understanding and outlook of suffering? How can the Church use and utilize scripture to aid our understanding?
This Fall, we will use the Book of Job and selections of the Apostle Paul’s writings to guide our reflection and discussion of “God, Evil, and the Reality of Suffering.” Please join us for a timely and lively group discussion on this important topic.

September 9th: Job’s response to his suffering; and Paul’s.

· Prime-Timers will take place on September 24th, 12:30pm at East Side Diner in Mifflinburg.
Fall Rummage Sale
Fall is coming and so is the Rummage Sale. All proceeds from the sale are given away to support our neighbors in need locally and around the world. There are many ways that you can help make this important mission a success. Donate items that are in good condition that you no longer use. We begin taking donations on Sunday afternoon, September 13. We cannot take used baby and child car seats, televisions and computer monitors, entertainment centers, mattresses, or stuffed furniture.
Donate some time! We need people to move donations downstairs starting on the 13th through Wednesday, the 16th. We also need people to sort and display the donations on Sunday through Wednesday. If you would like a specific job during the sale, talk to Judy. Clean-up happens on Saturday starting at noon and ends when we are finished. Many hands make a difference for that final push.
Donate food! We need food to feed the hard-working help and baked goods and soup to sell. Stop by any time during the week to say hello and share in the fellowship. It is an amazing week in the life of the church and we appreciate any way that you choose to be a part of it.
Bake Sale
Please see the sign-up sheet for the bake sale. The sale begins September 17th and we ask that all baked goods are to the church by Wednesday the 16th at 5:30 so that we are able to price all the items. The proceeds from the sale go to support the Weekend Food Program at the Mifflinburg Schools that we sponsor in March. Thanks for all the donations!
Nursery Volunteers
Volunteers are available to care for your infant to three-year-old child in the nursery every Sunday after the Children’s Time until the end of the service. All volunteers have appropriate clearances. If you would like to be part of this ministry, please contact Diane Hackenberg.
The nursery volunteers for September are: September 6 – Pam Eberhart; September 13 – Diane Amabile; September 20 – Carol Snook; September 27 – Diane Hackenberg.
Blessing Box Update
As always, we want to thank everyone for their amazing generosity and help in keeping our blessing box supplied for the public! We have had a steady stream of donations coming in to keep up with our needs through the summer. We are currently out of diapers at this time. We have a small supply of everything else but it will probably all be gone in the next couple of weeks. As always canned pasta and ready to eat soups(not condensed) are in the most demand. All sources of protein (tuna, canned chicken, beef, sausages & peanut butter) are always welcome. Veggies, beans, rice and dry pasta are our slowest movers. We have not been stocking deodorant in the box due to the hot temperatures and melting issues but with the coming cooler weather we should be able to fully stock toiletries again as donations come in. Thank you again for your support!

· Consistory would like to thank Bev Chamra for all her efforts to keep the Blessing Box stocked and necessary items available to those in need. Bev regularly stops throughout the week to keep it maintained and we are grateful to her!
· Consistory would also like to give a shout out to the Care Committee (Bonnie Dodge, Tony Noll & Scott Sanders) for their time and energy organizing the Spaghetti Dinner! We appreciate all of you and what you do for Dreisbach!
Fall Festival
The Fall Festival is coming upon us quickly, October 10th! We need everyone’s help to make this community event a success. We will be contacting volunteers to help at the games, food stand and bake sale. If no one has spoken to you and you are able to assist, please reach out. We are also looking for help on Friday evening prior to the festival to haul tables and other items from the church social hall to the Gazebo and again after the completion of the Festival to return the tables and things to the church social hall. Please consider where you may be able to assist with this wonderful event.
There will be sign-up sheets at the back of the sanctuary to sign up for donations to the bake sale (please remember to label your items) and some items needed for the food stand. Any questions regarding the Fall Festival -please reach out to Sharon Magyar 570-412-6310 call or text.
Pie Contest
School is back in session, Fall is quickly approaching and so is the Fall Festival which means it is time to call all bakers! We need bakers young and old and in between, male and female! So, start thinking about which one of your favorite pie recipes you would like to take 1st place! Prize money will be awarded to the top three winners in each division: adult female, adult male, and youth (up to age 15, please note that we lowered this age group).
Entry forms are available at the back of the church and on Friday, October 9th, in the downstairs social room. Please ensure all pies are delivered to the church by 10:30 am on Saturday morning, October 10th. Pies may also be brought to the church on Friday afternoon during setup. For $3 dollars taste all the pies and cast your vote for your top 3 favorites! Job Description: Executive Director(PT) Golden Rule Love INC is seeking a part-time Executive Director to provide leadership for our Christian outreach ministry. This individual will build relationships with local churches, community organizations, businesses, volunteers, and donors while overseeing day-to-day operations, supporting fundraising efforts, and advancing the mission of connecting churches to people with unmet needs. Training is provided/required through Love INC National. The ideal candidate is an active Christian involved in a local church, possesses strong leadership and communication skills, is comfortable speaking before groups, and can effectively manage multiple priorities. Basic computer proficiency, a valid Pennsylvania driver's license, insurance, and required clearances are necessary. This position offers flexible hours, occasional evenings and weekends, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave benefits, and mileage reimbursement.
