It's time to purchase Poinsettias!! This years plants will be coming from Engles Greenhouse at a cost of $10/plant again.  They are available in Red, White & Glitter (red w/white flecks).  Order forms are available at the back of the sanctuary and we ask that you turn them in by Sunday, November 21st.  Contact Tony Noll at (570)837-3104 or tmnoll@verizon.net with any questions.

Thank You

The Pfirman Family would like to thank everyone for all their support following the passing of Larry. Your cards, calls, flowers and kind words meant so much to all of us during this difficult time. We are all truly blessed to be part of the Dreisbach Family! Thank You

Rummage Wrap Up

On Sunday, October 19, we had the joy of distributing $13,000 from this year’s rummage sales. As always, we used this money to spread God’s love following God’s commands to share the good news and care for people in need. Thank you for all you did to make this possible. You worked, you donated goods, you made food, you set up, you cleaned up, you delivered goods and posters. It takes all of us to make rummage happen. Take a minute to consider the good work we are able to do because of rummage and remember these ministries and the people they serve in your prayers.

  • City of Joy in Rwanda - $2,500. They are currently raising funds to build a cafeteria for the high school students who must walk ¾ of a mile twice a day to the elementary cafeteria for breakfast and lunch. When the building is complete, students will have more time and energy to focus on their studies.

  • John Mark and Sharon Ambler, missionaries with Youth With a Mission - &2,500. John Mark and Sharon are friends of the Mike and Ruth Romig and serve God around the globe.

  • The Union-Snyder Agency on Aging - $2,000 to provide home delivered meals to the elderly. Having these meals allows people to remain in their homes more securely.

  • Kiwanis Club of Mifflinburg - $1,500. The club provides Christmas food boxes to the families of needy school children in the Mifflinburg district.

  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes - $500. FCA continues to expand its reach in the area, offering Bible studies and encouragement to high school students.

  • The Union County Giving Closet - $1,000. The Giving Closet works with families receiving services from the Central PA Food Bank and provides two seasonal clothing packages each year for newborns to 18-year-olds.

  • Haven Ministry of Sunbury- $1,000. Haven provides shelter to those in need from Snyder, Union, and Northumberland County. Once crisis needs are met, they offer programs that help residents foster self-sufficiency.

  • Union-Snyder Community Action Agency - $1,000. USCAA helps lower-income residents with housing, food, and utilities needs and connects folks to other resources.

  • Dreisbach’s Blessing Box - $1,000. The Blessing Box is being used heavily and emptied regularly. Your donations continue to be essential. This donation undergirds the ongoing work of the congregation.

November Devotional – Preparing for the Future

(on Dreisbach Facebook page)

How are we to understand the future, particularly as a response to Jesus’ own words and projections?  What are we to expect and anticipate? How are we to make connections between when, where, why and for whom?  So we will look at several passages found in Luke’s Gospel.  Take a look; ponder and reflect and notice where you might fit in.

(a copy of each week’s devotionals is available at the back of the sanctuary)

November and December Bible Study

Wednesdays, 6:30pm-8:00pm

How might the earliest of Jesus’ followers have arrived at an understanding of his birth and the implications for all of Israel and throughout the world?  Many of his followers would have been familiar with birth stories found in the Old Testament, not a fear which prompted surprise and amazement.  Would these followers of Jesus have been able to see any connection between these Old Testament birth stories and Jesus’ own birth?  Would they have been able to link all these stories within their understanding of God’s actions in the world in which they lived.

Our focus for our November and December Bible study will address these questions using the book A Child Is Born: A Beginners Guide to Nativity Stories by Amy-Jill Levine, a Jewish biblical scholar whose main interest is in the New Testament.  Please join us for engaging conversations and enlightening insights into the world of the Bible.

       November 5 – A Child is Born, Introduction IX-XXXV

November 12 – Chapter 1 – The Conception and Birth of Isaac and Ishmael p.1-30

November 19 – Chapter 2 – The Conception and Birth of Samson p.31-57

December 3 – Chapter 3 – The Conception and Birth of Samuel p.59-81

       December 10 – Chapter 4 – Jesus: Heir to Traditions p.83-93

       December 17 – Chapter 4 continued – p.93-119

Books are available at the church: see Pastor John

Fall Festival Recap

It was a beautiful day for the 9th annual Fall Festival.  Everyone enjoyed the day; playing games, tasting pies, purchasing baked goods and delicious food from the food stand.

A big thank you goes to everyone who helped in anyway with the festival.  Dreisbach has the best cooks and bakers!

Pie Tasting Contest Outcome
There were 14 pies entered in the pie tasting contest. We had 8 youth, 3 adult females and 1 adult male. Some contestants entered more than one pie and even though we don’t do this to make money, we did make a profit of $248.

With 48 votes, Quinn Swartzlander took first place with her Peanut Butter Oreo pie. Hendrick Kaster, with 30 votes, took second place with his Cookies and Cream pie and the Oreo Dirt pie, that had gummy worms, with 27 votes made by Conner Shively took third place.

In the adult female division, Ella Willow took first place with her Sour Cherry pie. Sharon Stump took second place with her Lemon Sponge pie and Joy Catherman took third place with her Pumpkin pie.

There was only one male adult entry, so therefore, Nick Shively took first place with his Orange Crème pie.

Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all that entered their favorite pies, and of course, all those that purchased tickets for the tasting!
