Adopt A Highway

On Sunday October 22nd, following the worship service (10:30) Dreisbach's commitment to helping keep the Buffalo Valley beautiful continues with our Fall "Adopt A Highway" day! Volunteers are needed to pick-up roadside litter on Dreisbach Church Road between Route 45 and Turkey Run Road.  Garbage bags, gloves, vests will be provided.  Your help is needed. A signup sheet will be on the table in the rear of the church or contact Don Bowman at 570-966-0785 or donbowman@windstream.net by October 15 if you can help to keep our valley beautiful. Your support is appreciated.

Fall Rummage Sale

The Rummage Sale is just around the corner! Please mark your calendars for the week of September 17-23. There are many ways that you can help. Donate items to sell that are in good condition. We will begin taking donations on Sunday afternoon, September 17. Sign up to bring food for the workers. It is a long week and we have many helpers and taking time to sit around the table at lunch and share community keeps everyone going. Contribute your time and muscles for the work of setting up, selling, and cleaning up at the end of the week. Set up begins Sunday morning after church when we move tables and chairs downstairs. Sorting and setting out goods continue from Sunday afternoon through Wednesday. Stop in any time to help out. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are the sale and we need checkers, baggers, and runners during that time. Saturday at noon clean-up begins and the more hands the better. At the end of the rummage week everyone is tired and seeing volunteers walk through the door at noon on Saturday is like seeing angels!

Don’t forget that the soup and bake sale happen along with the rummage sale. Talk to Karen Mensch or Ann Lepley about helping out in those areas.

If you have any questions about the sale, see Judy Willow, Holly Snyder, or Diane Hackenberg. Thank you for all the ways you support this outreach.

7th Annual Fall Festival

Our 7th Annual Fall Festival will take place Saturday, October 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  It will be a great day of fellowship with our church family and people from our community.  Some of Dreisbach's best bakers will be filling the bake stand with their scrumptious pies, whoopie pies, cookies and goodies of all kinds. Why not enter your pies in the pie tasting contest for all ages?  We will have Clyde’s Fries, pulled pork made by Rod Heddens on the premises, hot dogs, chicken corn, ham & bean, and vegetable soup at the food stand.  More pies are requested at the bake sale stand to sell and provide dessert at the food stand.  There will be all kinds of games to entertain the children.  Entertainment will be provided by Alex Cooke who plays country rock, southern rock. Contemporary Christian and praise music.

In order to make the festival run smoothly, we need volunteers. Volunteers are needed for the food stand, games, bake sale stand and the pie tasting stand.  A sign-up sheet will be posted in the back of the sanctuary listing the donations that are needed and volunteers for the different jobs.

Even if you can’t help in anyway with the day’s events please come, with your lawn chair, to the festival to enjoy the day with your family at Dreisbach and bring along some friends!

Pie Contest

Entry forms will be available Friday afternoon, October 13th in the downstairs social hall.  All pies should be at the church no later than Saturday morning, October 14th by 10:30 am.  Three taster tickets will be available for $3 to cast your vote for your favorite pie.  Any questions see, call or text Sharon Rein at 570-713-9503.  Good luck to all the contestants!

Greetings Dreisbach Family!

Last month, the Amabile, Hause & Taylor families traveled together to City of Joy – Rwanda. The opportunity to be able to share the experience of what City of Joy is all about with our families was a true blessing. On behalf of City of Joy and our families, we are forever grateful for the support our church family has given to the school & its mission. Our journey was a blessed one and we are continually amazed of Gods work in Rwanda.

One of the highlights of this journey, was meeting a young man named, Eldephonse.

Eldephonse is a 15-year-old student at City of Joy and will be entering into ninth grade. He speaks three languages, and is one of the most kind, considerate, compassionate “old souls” that I have ever met.

Some in the Joy community, know that I am a small business owner & entrepreneur in the United States. Eldephonse approached me regarding a business proposal he’d like to discuss with me regarding raising chickens.  I asked that he put everything in writing, and that we would meet the following day to talk about what opportunities there might be together.

On a one pager, Eldephonse presented the below proposal:

The total proposed financial investment was approximately $26 American dollars.  When we met, we discussed the hills & valleys of business and how every business will go through challenging times, but it’s during those times (The Valley) where we learn the most of what to do and what not to do. This is where having a safety net of savings is put aside just in case one may need it. I suggested an additional $4 dollars investment so that he was prepared for the unexpected. Total investment $30 American dollars. After reviewing this young man’s proposal, I had only one important question.

When I come back in January, what is the main goal that you would like to achieve in your business? His answer brought tears to my eyes & hope for humanity.

Eldephonse replied “I want to be able to feed my family one meal per week from the profits of this enterprise.”

His goal was not financial gain but rather improving the lives of his loved ones. Purpose Over Profit!

This is just one example of Gods work at play at City of Joy and the work HE is doing to help these young leaders of tomorrow in elevating them and their families out of extreme poverty.

Should anyone in our church family like to participate in a mission trip to City of Joy, sponsor a child, or make an in-kind donation for the numerous projects underway please reach out to me directly to learn how you can make a real difference in the lives of others.
