Fall Rummage Sale

The Rummage Sale is almost here! Please mark your calendars for the week of September 18-24 and consider helping make this sale another success. There’s a job for everyone. Can you lift tables and chairs? Come out on Sunday the 18th and Saturday, the 24th, to help. Can you bake or cook? Help feed the workers. There is a sign-up sheet in the back of the church to contribute food. Please check it out! Do you love sorting and arranging? Come help set up Sunday through Wednesday. Can you smile at strangers in the midst of chaos? Come help be an ambassador for Dreisbach on sale days. Do you have any treasures in your home that you no longer use? Donate them to the sale. Please have donations to the church by Tuesday. Unfortunately, we can no longer accept TVs or computer monitors.

Please help. We can’t do the rummage sale without the support of the whole church. If you have any questions talk to Judy Willow, Holly Snyder, or Diane Hackenberg.

All-Church Picnic/Brunch

We will kick-off fall with a picnic at the Gazebo on September 11th following church services!  Please bring table service and a dish or dessert to share.  Beverage will be provided.

Highlights from August Consistory Meeting

September will be a busy month at church.  Consistory decided an All-Church Picnic/Brunch would be a good way to kick off the Fall.  It will be held at the Gazebo, Sunday, September 11th.  If it rains, we will meet in the social room downstairs.  September 18th is setup for Rummage Sale as well as the Central Association 60th Anniversary Celebration at St. John’s UCC and Sunday School will start September 25, 2022.

Alec Chappell was approved to be added to the Search Committee.

The supply Pastor’s rate will be increased to $200 effective October 1st, per Penn Central Conference’s recommendation.

Consistory approved Rev. John Yost as an Interim Pastor for October, November and December.

Consistory approved participation in the Backpack Project for March 2023.

A service call will be placed to Robert M. Sides to address soundboard issues and the status of the microphones that have been backordered.

Consistory approved Lori Leitzel, church treasurer, to transfer money from the investments (not to exceed $5,000), to the savings account to insure we meet the minimum balance requirements.

The next Consistory meeting will be September 15, 2022 at 7pm.

60th Anniversary of the Central Association

Please join the Central Association in a 60th Anniversary Celebration on September 18th from 2-5 at St. John’s UCC.  If you would like to attend please contact Dave Beckley.

Upcoming Meetings

·       In order to avoid a conflict with the rummage sale the Prime-timers luncheon will be the last Thursday of the month. The next Prime-timers luncheon is at 12:30 pm on September 29th at D.C. Coffee & Tea Co.

·       The next meeting of the Prayer Shawl group is Thursday, September 29th, at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Thank You

A special thank you to our church family for the calls, visits, cards and food during this time of Syl's passing. A big thank you to everyone who helped with his service and or the meal following.

Women’s Bible Study

A six week women’s bible study will begin on September 28th. The sign-up sheet along with flyers for the book are available at the back of the sanctuary. The book that will be used is Significant – Six Ordinary Women, One Extraordinary God.  Books are available on Amazon and we are asking everyone to be responsible for getting their own books.

Sunday School

Sunday School will resume in September. Kids ages 3 to 15 years old will begin Sunday September 18th and adult classes will start the following Sunday due to Rummage Sale setup on the 18th.

What is the “Neighbors in Need” special mission offering?

Neighbors in Need (NIN) is a special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Two-thirds of this offering is used by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through grants. Neighbors in Need grants are awarded to UCC churches and organizations doing justice work in their communities. These grants fund projects whose work ranges from direct service to community organizing and advocacy to address systemic injustice.

We will collect throughout the month of September.  Envelopes are available at the church or simply include a note with your offering.
